Rojas’ winning smile instantly bought him the hearts of the Hunnsnal faithful, but he wasn’t just a pretty face. A tireless worker in the centre of the well-renowned Van Dozer team, Mathias Rojas was one of the best midfielders of the 2020 season. A goal roughly every three games, and the odd assist really don’t tell the full story of this man’s legend.
The Van Dozer team were tasked with possibly the toughest Weekend League challenge faced by a Hunnsnal squad in 2020, with qualification to Gold 2 resting on a final game. The 29th game seemed to be won in the dying embers of extra time minutes, as Rojas put away a tidy finish, but the opposition equalised, and sadly won on penalties. The pressure was on in that final game, and of course it was Rojas once again who stepped up to the plate, dribbling calmly and effectively around the defence, finding his gap, embracing the moment and taking his shot straight into the back of the net - unleashing a (potentially embarrassing) torrent of passion from the home benches, as well as the stands, as Rojas had practically single-handedly won Hunnsnal their place in the upper tiers of FUT Champs for what would be their final entry in the competition. This story alone is enough to guarantee this man’s place in the hall, but of course it’s just one tale in the legend of Rojas.
